SAFEPLACE is a school-age child care program serving the families of Chicago's Edgewater community, providing a creative environment for spiritual, educational, emotional, social and physical development - after school!
We teach the Word of God in order to evangelize and disciple students to spiritual maturity, a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
is the Bible teaching segment of SAFEPLACE.. The purpose of Crosstraining is to simply teach children what God has told us in His Word, the Bible. This is done in a variety of ways in large and small group sessions - through Bible stories, songs, memorization, videos, testimonies, puppets and worship. We want children to meet God for themselves through a personal relationship with His Son, Jesus Christ. Throughout the year, children are given the opportunity to decide to follow Christ and be forgiven. We share with them how to grow in their new relationship with God. Many other spiritual "helps" are available to children and their families:
Homework Time: The children have over one hour each day to do their homework and get tutoring in reading and math. Children are divided into small "zone" groups, with their tutors. to focus on academics.
Library A small library is available to the children so they can select books to read at SAFEPLACE
Parent/Teacher/Staff conferences can be arranged so that children are encouraged by a team of caring adults in their lives.
We work to foster an environment where students learn how to be
socially well-developed.
In addition, we provide recreational activities and nutritious
snacks to promote physical fitness.
CTA (Choose the Action) is the "free choice" time of the program. Each day, children are able to choose from a variety of activities like crafts, cooking, sports, computers and games. They work and play at their own pace and develop their individual interests while being introduced to new experiences.
Nutritional snacks are available during this time.
LIFE is a rotation of life skill classes which all SAFEPLACE kids are required to attend. They learn basic life skills like brushing their teeth, organizing their back pack, making their bed, and doing the dishes.
ZONE IN is a special opportunity each week for leaders and kids to communicate in a small group format that is age specific. Special events such as birthday parties, game days, and outings are planned so that kids get some special attention from leaders as well as time to get to know their zone-mates
