The night’s text was Exodus 32:1-25.
We learned how the People of Israel became impatient as Moses received the written Commandments from God. They became upset and asked Aaron to fashion a god for them. In doing this they angered God. (He had already told them not to worship other gods and not to make idols, Commandments 1 &2.) Moses talked to God and God decided to have mercy on the people.
However when Moses descended from the mountain he returned to camp finding the people worshiping the golden calf. He burned with anger, broke the tablets in a fit of rage, melted down the calf, put what was left in the water, and made the people drink it!
Aaron uses every excuse he can come up with to explain how the calf came and how it was not his fault!
We talked about how we are not to worship other gods or make idols. We also learned from the bad example of Aaron about how we SHOULD respond to other people giving us bad ideas.
In our project time we did a taste testing experiment and then raced off to a rousing game of speed bowling.
As usual we eneded the evening with prayer time in our groups.

We again visited Exodus 19:16-20:21 . We reviewed how to put God first (Commandments 1-4). Then we keyed in on how to respect others the way God wants us to. We did that by focusing in on and discussing Commandments 5-10. The children seemed to have a pretty good handle on what each Commandment meant. Please pray that they would learn to follow them.
Next we did our nightly project. The children were divided into 3 groups where they did an experiment using rocks, rice, and a walnut. They filled jars and learned that to fit God (walnut) in they need to put Him first (put the walnut in the container first). If we wait and put God last in our lives there might not be enough room (like in the container that had too much in it to fit the walnut).
We played a new version of dodge ball! Each team was broken into partners. One partner was blindfolded and the other, “seeing”, partner was the protector. If the blindfolded person was hit both of the partners were out. If just the “seeing” partner was hit he/she had to leave the blindfolded partner behind. I think the new version was enjoyed so we will likely play it again. I’m looking forward to seeing more of the stragegies that the children come up with!
One student (and I) already learned this months verse!! (Check out our study aid in the right-hand column.) Many students brought their Bibles again this week and a few students attended Sunday school this past week. Tickets for our Teamwork Game were earned by each child who completed the above “tasks.”
Prayer time was a bit rushed this week, but it seems that the children are becoming a bit more willing to share requests.
